FAQs & Candle Care Tips
Important Candle Safety
- Burn Within Sight: Never leave a burning candle unattended. Always extinguish the candle when leaving a room or before going to sleep.
- Keep Away from Flammable Objects: Ensure the candle is placed away from anything that can catch fire, such as curtains, furniture, and paper.
- Keep Away from Children and Pets: Place candles out of reach of children and pets to prevent accidental knocking over or burns.
- Use on Heat-Resistant Surface: Always place the candle on a stable, heat-resistant surface to prevent damage to furniture or surfaces.
- Trim Wick to ¼ Inch: Before lighting, trim the wick to ¼ inch to prevent excessive flame and smoking.
- Burn for 2-4 Hours at a Time: Do not burn the candle for more than 2-4 hours at a time to prevent the container from overheating.
- Keep Wax Pool Free of Debris: Ensure the wax pool is free of wick trimmings, matches, or other debris to prevent flaring.
- Avoid Drafts: Place candles away from drafts, vents, ceiling fans, and air currents to prevent rapid, uneven burning and soot formation.
- Use a Candle Snuffer: Use a snuffer to extinguish the candle to avoid hot wax splatter. Do not use water to extinguish the candle.
- Discontinue Use When ½ Inch of Wax Remains: Stop burning the candle when approximately ½ inch of wax remains to prevent heat damage to surfaces.
- Handle with Care: The container can become hot. Handle with care and allow it to cool completely before touching or moving.
- Avoid Using if Damaged: Do not use the candle if the container is cracked, chipped, or damaged in any way.
Warning:
Failure to follow these instructions could result in fire, injury, or damage to property. Use candles responsibly and always prioritize safety.
Candle Care Tips
- In order to get the most out of your candle, burn it until the entire surface of the candle melts.
- To preserve the fragrance, do not burn your candle for more than 2 hours at a time during the first third of the candle and 1 hour at a time during the remaining.
- Do not leave candle burning unattended. Do not set in a draft. Keep away from children, curtains and pets.
- Should the wick require centering, gently readjust to correct position when the wax is still molten. Allow candle to solidify before relighting.
- Should any black smoke appear, trim the tip of the wick. It should be clean and no longer than 5mm at all times.
- Always protect the table or surface on which the candle rests (with a wood or ceramic plate, for example).
- Do not burn your candle all the way down. Always leave at least 5 mm of non-molten wax at the bottom.
- Keep your candle in a dry and temperate environment, between 60 and 80° F.
How long should I burn my candle each time?
For most candles, the ideal burn time is 3-4 hours. The hidden message will start to show up after approximately 1 hour of burning. This ensures an even melt pool and prevents tunneling. Always extinguish a candle immediately with a snuffer if you see excessive smoke or if the flame grows large.
What happens if I burn my candle for too long?
Burning a candle for too long can cause the wick to become too long and "mushroom", leading to a larger flame and more soot. It can also make the container excessively hot and potentially cause it to break, and even damage the surface the candle rests on.
How to prevent my candle from tunneling?
To prevent tunneling, ensure that the first burn lasts long enough for the entire surface of the candle to melt evenly. This typically takes 2-4 hours.
To fix tunneling, allow the candle to burn long enough for the melted wax to reach the edges of the container. This might take a few hours.
What is the best way to extinguish a candle?
The best way to extinguish a candle is to use a snuffer. This minimizes smoke and keeps the wick centered, ready for the next burn. Avoid blowing out the candle, as this can cause hot wax to splatter, which can burn you and damage the candle's container. It can also create smoke and disturb the wax pool, which can affect the candle's fragrance and cause soot to form.
How do I clean out my candle jar for reuse?
Place the jar in the freezer for a few hours. Once the wax is hard, it should pop out easily. Clean any residue with warm, soapy water.
